             abstract = "The present work has an intention of analyze the urban growth of 
                         the municipality of Barcarena by means of the identification of 
                         exposed areas and urban areas through remote sensing techniques 
                         with satellite images of medium resolution. For 1986 and 1999 was 
                         used imagens of Landsat 5 TM satellite and for 2016 was used image 
                         of Landsat 8 OLI. Radiometric and atmospheric corrections were 
                         performed on all images. The image-by-image georeferencing was 
                         done using the image of 2016 of Landsat 8 OLI as a base to 
                         georeferencing the images of 1986 and 1999 of Landsat 5 TM. All 
                         the processes were generating in the software Envi 4.5 when 
                         occurred the digital image processing. In order to analyze the use 
                         and land cover in the municipality, was generate a post processing 
                         that consisted in a supervised classification. The classes mapped 
                         were dense vegetation, secondary vegetation exposed soil, urban 
                         area and water body. In software ArcGis 10.1 was accomplish the 
                         clipping of classification for study area and the calculation of 
                         mapped areas. Based on the data analyzed, was quantified the urban 
                         area in 1986, 1999 and 2016. The installation of mineral 
                         processing companies in Vila do Conde occurrences during the years 
                         of 1980 and 1990 resulted in population growth.",
